In September 2024, the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post was requested to investigate missing funds from a family trust.

The alleged perpetrator, 26-year-old Kyle Alan Karsten from Elmire, wrote himself checks from the trust totaling more than $11,000 in 2023. He also allegedly forged the signatures on the checks. This was done without permission from the trustees.

A report was submitted to the Otsego County Prosecutor’s Office and an arrest warrant was authorized for Karsten on January 24, 2025.

Karsten was lodged in the Otsego County Jail. Karsten was arraigned this week in the 87-A District Court in Otsego County on two counts Forgery.

His bond was set at $2,000 cash surety. His next scheduled court appearance is on February 6, 2025.
