Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) and Delta Connection, operated by SkyWest Airlines, are pleased to announce the best passenger totals in airport history.
In 2024, over 52,500 passengers flew to/from Chippewa County International Airport. Passengers enjoyed daily nonstop jet service to Detroit and Minneapolis. “This is a 16% increase over 2023 passenger counts, and our best year ever”, said Tami Beseau, Airport Manager. Northern Michigan and Sault Ontario residents continue to support the airport, and SkyWest continues to provide reliable jet service to the entire region.
2025 should prove to be even better for CIU travelers with the announcement of additional air service. United Express, operated by SkyWest Airlines, will begin a seasonal flight, offering daily round-trip service to Chicago O’Hare (ORD). May 15, 2025 – September 28, 2025, Chippewa passengers can enjoy nonstop jet service; multiple classes of service and enjoy all amenities United Airlines has to offer.
With this new route to Chicago (ORD), travelers will have enhanced flexibility in comparing costs, schedules, and connectivity to/from the three largest airports in the Great Lakes region. The Chicago flights will complement CIU’s existing daily round-trip flights to Detroit Metro (DTW) and Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP).
“Having this level of connectivity to now three major hubs for the region are a tremendous benefit to our residents, local businesses, and contractors”, stated Chris Olson, President of Chippewa County EDC. “I would like to thank SkyWest Airlines, Delta Connection, and United Express for their level of commitment to the EUP”, stated Olson.
