Patricia Ann (Carolin) Smith, age 87, of Cedarville, Michigan, died on October 21, 2024. She was born on March 23, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, to Patrick James and Alice (Guardiola) Carolin.

Patricia grew up in the Detroit area and was the oldest and only girl of seven children. She graduated from Shrine Catholic Schools and attended St. Mary’s College at Norte Dame in Portage Township, Indiana. She moved away to study and become a Dominican Nun, but she left prior to the vows. After leaving, she reconnected with Bradley Smith and the pair married on November 21, 1959. They had four children that they adored, two daughters and two sons. She raised her children downstate while working in hospice care and volunteering at the Catholic Church. Patricia and Bradley were married for 58 years before Bradley passed in 2017. Patricia first came to the Les Cheneaux Islands (LCI) on vacation with Bradley and his family, before moving to Cedarville in 2002 to retire. She worked at the Maritime Museum in Cedarville and had a great knowledge of the history of Les Cheneaux Islands and of the water.

Patricia devoted her life to God. There was nothing more important to her than her faith and her family. She was a devote Catholic and loved teaching God’s word. Being the oldest, she took on the role of head of the family. Patricia spent her time volunteering for Hospice, quilting in the Quilt Guild, and teaching the word of God through Alter Society Our Lady of Snows, St. Vincent De Paul, and Eucurst Minster.

Patricia is survived by her daughter, Bonny (Mike) Eastup of Rome, New York; sons, Bryan Smith of Tawain and Leonard Smith of Belleville, Michigan; brothers, Ralph (Carol) Carolin and Joseph (Deborah) Carolin, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who will all miss her dearly.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Bradley Smith; daughter, Lynn Smith; parents, P. James and Alice; and brothers, Paul Carolin, James Carolin, Michael Carolin, and John Carolin.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Patricia’s name to St. Vincent De Paul, 417 S Lakeside Rd, Cedarville, MI 49719 or Cedar Cove Assisted Living, 266 S Mary L St, Cedarville, MI 49719.
