Sault school board members sworn in

Sault Area Public Schools Superintendent recognizes board members during School Board Recognition Month

January is School Board Recognition Month in the Great Lakes State, and Sault Area Public Schools Superintendent Amy Kronemeyer was sure to recognize the school system’s board members.

Trustee William Odbert, Secretary Missy Pingatore, Treasurer Ken Dunton, and Trustee Michelle Ribant were sworn in on Monday, Jan. 9 to serve the students and staff of Sault Area Public Schools.

This will be Odbert’s first time serving on the school's board of education. He was elected in November to serve a six-year term. Pingatore was re-elected, while Dunton and Ribant were both appointed.

Each member has stepped up to serve alongside President Christine Curtis, Vice-President Caitlin Galer, and Trustee Daniel Smith to make for a full board of seven.

"All seven board members have one common goal, which is to provide the best quality education for the students of Sault Ste. Marie,” Kronemeyer said.

According to the Michigan Association of School Boards, a board of education is responsible for educating students, ensuring the safety and welfare of students and staff, acquiring and disposing of school property, providing employee and contractor oversight, handling school funds, setting the school's curriculum, dealing with employee matters, levying local taxes to run the school, adopting budgets, managing transportation, and negotiating employee salaries.
