The Sault Area Public Schools Board of Education unanimously voted to retire Washington and Lincoln elementary buildings and reorganize schools. Starting in the fall of 2025, the following changes will take place:
- Sault Area Elementary School for grades K-5 will be located at the current middle school building
- Sault Middle School 6-8 will relocate to the current high school building
- Malcolm Alternative Jr/Sr High School and Virtual Blue will support grades 7-12 and include the SAIL (Sault Alternative Innovative Learner) program from SAMS at the Soo Township campus.
"This decision comes after months of diligent work and planning since the election in November," said Board trustee, Caitlin Galer. "We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this process, including our staff, parents, and community members, for their invaluable contributions and support."
“We understand that this news may be emotional; our team is committed to supporting staff, parents, and students throughout this transition,” stated Superintendent Kronemeyer. “We will continue to provide a safe and supportive school environment for our students and keep Sault Area Public Schools - A great place to learn."
