Trooper Mack Schlicht of the Negaunee Post is being recognized as the Marquette County Law Enforcement Administrator’s Association (MCLEAA) - 2024 Officer of the Year award.
Trooper Schlicht enlisted with the Michigan State Police in July of 2004 as a member of the 120th Trooper Recruit School before being assigned to the Negaunee Post.
While at the Negaunee Post, Trooper Schlicht has served as an evidence technician, first aid instructor, and tobacco tax team member along with his various other duties and assignments. Trooper Schlicht has attended multiple specialized trainings and has been the recipient of various awards and unit citations for his consistent, excellent work in the field.
In 2015, Trooper Schlicht was selected for and attended the 50th Canine Handler Basic School. Upon graduation, Trooper Schlicht was assigned to the Hometown Security Team (HST) in Sault Ste. Marie. In 2017, Trooper Schlicht transferred to HST out of Eighth District Headquarters. In 2019, Trooper Schlicht transferred back to the Negaunee Post where he continues to serve as a canine handler.
Trooper Schlicht is very proactive in traffic enforcement and criminal interdiction. Trooper Schlicht has excelled throughout his career in conducting thorough criminal investigations. Trooper Schlicht is a true asset not only to Negaunee Post, but to the other agencies of Marquette County and has proven to be a true leader amongst his peers in the law enforcement community. Trooper Schlicht always takes initiative and is the most reliable partner to provide police services to the community.
Anyone who has worked with Trooper Schlicht can recognize his true passion for the job to serve the public to the best of his ability. Being the only canine handler at the Negaunee Post, Trooper Schlicht can always be relied upon to answer the call at any time, day or night, and give his very best toward any assignment, task or investigation. Trooper Schlicht will work countless hours until the goal or task he is assigned gets achieved.
Trooper Schlicht sets an excellent example for what a dedicated law enforcement officer should represent to the Michigan State Police, fellow law enforcement partners and to the citizens he serves.
