Network and phone issues at Sault Area Schools due to storm

Parents took to social media this morning claiming they never got notifications about Sault Area Public Schools closing on their phone.

Parents of those who have children in Sault Area Public Schools took to social media this morning claiming they were never notified by the district using their automated message system.

Amy J. Scott-Kronemeyer, Superintendent of Sault Area Public Schools, tells SooLeader that the district phones were knocked out during the power outage and that all messages went out using their standard delivery system.

Kronemeyer also included data from this morning's mass call out using that standard delivery system.

There were 3,803 calls delivered out of 4,739 recipients in the system.

  • 2,032 calls went directly to an answering machine.
  • 1392 answered the call.
  • 379 recipients hung up.
  • 471 recipients had no number on file.
  • 172 recipients had phone number deactivated.
  • 150 recipients have the (855) number blocked.
  • 95 recipients did not answer the call.
  • 44 recipients had invalid phone number.
  • 2 recipients lines were busy.
  • 2 recipients had operator intercept.

Kronemeyer passed along these tips to ensure the public is informed about alerts from the school.

If people change numbers and don't tell us, they will not get a message.

If they block the emergency number (855), they won't get a call.

If they have a non-working number for any reason, it will not work.

It also went out on Facebook, through the mobile app, and via sms.

It also was released through the 9&10 alert. It was also on the radio.

She encourages parents to check the parent portal and ensure they have a working number on file. Parent numbers are updated in their emergency call system every night.
