NEWS RELEASE
GOVERNOR GRETCHEN WHITMER

Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer proclaimed November as Michigan Craft Beverage Month, encouraging Michiganders to support world-class, locally produced wine, beer, cider, and spirits throughout the holiday season.

“Michigan’s multi-billion-dollar craft beverage industry supports thousands of good-paying jobs and strengthens local communities across the state,” said Governor Whitmer. “During Michigan Craft Beverage Month, I encourage Michiganders to join us in saying ‘Cheers’ to the excellent products we make right here at home. Let’s keep working together to support this iconic industry and grow our economy.”

Michigan Craft Beverage Month also recognizes the role of craft beverage businesses in making Michigan a great place to live and work. These businesses are impactful to community placemaking, economic development, and agritourism. With most Michigan counties hosting at least one craft beverage business, these companies reflect the regionality and vibrancy of the state’s rural and urban landscapes.

Farming and agriculture are at the heart of the state’s thriving craft beverage sector. Michigan’s climate is well-suited for producing excellent wine grapes, abundant cider apples, aromatic hops, and complex grains for brewing and distilling.

“When we choose locally made products during Craft Beverage Month and throughout the year, we are often supporting Michigan’s farms, which is where the flavor starts,” said Tim Boring, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director and Chair of the Michigan Craft Beverage Council. “Michigan’s craft beverage industry continues to grow and is an essential part of our local economies.”

“The holiday season is a great time to support Michigan-made,” said Jenelle Jagmin, Michigan Craft Beverage Council Executive Director. “Whether you’re hosting or attending an event, a locally produced bottle pairs perfectly with festive meals. After all, Michigan is known for crisp, cool-climate wines, well-balanced hard ciders, iconic beers, and well-crafted spirits.”
