Rapid City resident charged in domestic violence investigation

Investigation launched on Aug. 22 after victim said she was assault and her cell phone was smashed

KALKASKA COUNTY - On Thursday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2024, troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Houghton Lake Post were called to a business to speak with a woman who had been assaulted. Another person called in the complaint. The victim told troopers she had an argument with 46-year-old James Earl Seabolt from Rapid City. During the argument [it is alleged that] he assaulted her and smashed her cellular phone. Troopers went to Seabolt’s residence; however, they were unable to locate him. A report was submitted to the Kalkaska County Prosecutor’s Office and an arrest warrant was authorized.

Deputies from the Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office arrested Seabolt on Sept. 14, 2024, on the outstanding warrant. He was lodged in the Kalkaska County Jail.

Seabolt was arraigned in the 87-B District Court in Kalkaska County on one count Domestic Violence Third Offense, Interfering with Electronic Communications, and Habitual Offender Fourth Offense. His bond was set at $25,000 cash/surety 10 per cent. His next scheduled court appearance is on Oct. 7, 2024 at 1:30 p.m.
