On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at approximately 11:42 p.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Traverse City Post conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a moving violation on US-31 near State Street in Blair Township.

The driver of the vehicle was a 33-year-old man from Lake Ann. His passenger was a 34-year-old man from Grawn.

Troopers observed a large, fixed blade knife on the center console. The knife belonged to the passenger.

Troopers also observed the driver trying to conceal a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine under the driver’s seat. A search of the vehicle resulted in a seizure of methamphetamine in the backseat area, a 9mm pistol in the glove box, and an open bottle of whisky under the driver’s seat.

Troopers determined the pistol belonged to the driver and the driver did not possess a CPL.

The driver was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, carrying a concealed firearm, felony firearm, and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.

The passenger was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon for possessing the knife.

Both men were lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail pending arraignment.
