MANISTEE COUNTY – On Tuesday, Sept. 3 at approximately 8:45 p.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Cadillac Post were called to a report of an alleged felonious assault at a residence in Onekama.

Troopers spoke with the victim who had fled the scene and called 911 from a neighbor’s home.

The victim stated she and the suspect, 39-year-old James Michael McNamara from Kalkaska, had an argument. During the argument he assaulted her, threatened her with a shotgun, and took her phone so she could not call 911. He then fled the scene.

The victim refused treatment by EMS. McNamara returned while troopers were on scene, and he was placed under arrest.

McNamara was lodged in the Manistee County Jail.

McNamara was arraigned in the 85th District Court in Manistee on two counts Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, one count Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder, and one count interfering with an Electronic Communication Device.

His bond was set at $150,000. His next scheduled court appearance is on Sept. 25.
