Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m. a trooper from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Houghton Lake Post was investigating a vehicle parked on private property near Wa Wa Sum Drive in Grayling Township. The vehicle was registered to a woman with an outstanding warrant for her arrest out of Ohio.

A man known to the trooper and identified as 48-year-old Darrell Wayne Curtis from Grayling, was driving with a woman in the passenger seat of his vehicle near the scene. The trooper knew Curtis’ license was suspended.

A traffic stop was made, and the woman was identified as the owner of the parked vehicle.

During a search of Curtis’ vehicle, officers recovered a scale, over 21 grams of individually packaged methamphetamine labeled with the weight of each package, empty plastic baggies, and a double-edged knife. Curtis was arrested and lodged in the Crawford County Jail.

The warrant for the woman out of Ohio was non-extraditable.

Curtis was arraigned in the 46th District Court in Crawford County on one count delivery-manufacture methamphetamine, one count carrying a concealed weapon, and driving while license suspended. His bond was set at $30,000 cash surety. His next scheduled court appearance is on Oct. 22, 2024, at 2 p.m.

The trooper was assisted by a deputy from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
