First responders dispatched to Countryside Apartments

Yellow gas was reported to be coming from a shower head and multiple people were reported to be sick

First responders were called out to an incident at Countryside Apartments.

At 6:48 a.m. Sunday, Dafter Township Volunteer Fire Dept. Chief Austin Conway said they responded – along with Kinross EMS – to 9975 S. Mackinac Trail for the report of yellow gas coming from the shower and multiple people sick in the residence.

“Units arrived on scene and made contact with reporting party,” he said in a statement to SooLeader. “Reporting party advised one subject was still inside the residence. Crews entered wearing SCBA’s (air packs) to conduct a search for the subject. Crews located the subject and removed the subject from the building.”

“Soo Township Fire was requested to assist with building search and decontamination. Crews performed gross decontamination of both subjects. Both subjects were transported to MyMichigan Medical Center Sault for treatment. Air monitoring and scene evaluation conducted on scene showed no hazardous materials. The scene was turned over to the property owner."

Conway said there is no further investigation needed by law enforcement or fire personnel.
