UPDATE: One killed in crash that closed Mackinac Trail

CPR performed on scene on female passenger who was later pronounced dead in hospital

UPDATE (FROM MICHIGAN STATE POLICE):

The MSP Sault Ste. Marie Post is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred in Rudyard Township on October 10, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Subaru failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a UPS truck.

The driver of the Subaru sustained minor injuries and was lodged pending prosecutor review.

Two passengers of the Subaru were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. CPR was performed on scene on the third female passenger. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Family notifications are still pending. The driver of the UPS delivery truck was not hurt and released on scene. The investigation is ongoing and pends medical examiner reports and prosecutor review.

EARLIER REPORT:

Mackinac Trail at Centerline is closed due to a collision.

Details are limited, but there were several injuries with EMS taking the injured to the hospital.

The call to Central Dispatch came in just before 1:30 p.m. and the collision appears to have involved a UPS truck and a passenger sedan.

Kinross EMS, Rudyard fire, Kinross fire, Sault Tribal Police, Michigan State Police and the Chippewa County Sheriff’s deputies are all at the scene.
