Jeri Plont Maupin, age 84, born Helen Geraldine Grogg on September 2, 1940, passed on Monday, November 11, 2024. Jeri was born in Darnestown, Maryland to Thomas Hughes Grogg and Bertha Miller and spent most of her adult life on Drummond Island, Michigan.

Jeri grew up traveling the country with her parents. Her dad worked as a diamond bit core driller. That eventually brought them to Drummond Island in the 50's when Thomas did drilling samples for the dolomite quarry.

Jeri fell in love with “her” island. She married and had four children. Although she and her husband briefly traveled for work, and she spent some time in Oklahoma, she was never away from the island for long.

Jeri loved Drummond Island and her Drummond Island community. Jeri enjoyed boating with her friends in the summer and passing time during the long winters hanging out with family and friends. Just pull out a guitar and Jeri would gladly join in on an impromptu sing along. Jeri has been excitedly awaiting the arrival of her first great-grand daughter Rensley.

Jeri is survived by her four children, Cindy (Paul) Hammers, Joni (Bryan) Davis, Julie Plont, John (Jayme) Plont; grandchildren, Melissa (Joey), JayCee (Wayman), Daniel (Luisa); great-grandchildren, Lincoln, James, Gannon; numerous nieces, (especially her beloved Bootsie); many nephews; and extended family.

Jeri was preceded in her passing by her parents, Thomas Hughes Grogg and Bertha Miller; and siblings, Glen (Bill) Hughes, Louise (Sis) Bertha, Thomas (Tommy) Gordon, and Wyndam Jordan.

A memorial gathering will be held to celebrate the life of our beloved Mother and Grandmother at the Drummond Island Town Hall, 29935 E Pine St, Drummond Island, on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM. A dish to pass is welcome.

Jeri will be laid to rest at the Drummond Island Cemetery Thursday, November 14, 2024 with her family in attendance.
