Judith Ann (Hunt) Zane, age 82, died on December 5, 2024, at the Ball Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She was born on November 15, 1942, in Sault Ste. Marie to Marshall and Verna (Rust) Hunt.
Judy was raised and graduated from Sault Area High School with the Class of 1960. She worked at Smith & Smith Attorneys at Law and General Adjustment Bureau in the administration clerical position. However, many will remember her from the twenty-five years as a WIC clerk at the Chippewa County Health Department, retiring in 2008. Judy’s former clients may remember her for the hat and mittens she would crochet and give to kids that were in for their appointments, during the cold winter months.
Judy was known for being crafty and her talents included sewing/quilting, cross-stitch, quilling, crochet, and most recently diamond painting. She also had a flare for gardening, was an avid reader, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and could be found playing video games after work. She loved dogs and had rescued a few quirky ones from the animal shelter. Judy enjoyed spending weekends and her summer vacations at the Hunt family cottage on the North shore of Sugar Island. She had a warm heart and was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. She will be missed by her children as well as family, and friends, near and far.
Judy is survived by her children, Charles “Chuck” Zane of Sault Ste. Marie and Jodine “Jodi” Zane of Haw River, North Carolina; and sister, Marilynn Mitchell of Jenison, Michigan.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Verna; stepmother, Belle (Kopitsch) Hunt; and infant sister, Barbara Ellen Hunt.
Per Judy’s wishes there will be no service.
Memorial donations may be made in Judy’s memory to Hospice of EUP, 308 W. 12th St., Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783
