Jack Kevin Miles, age 72, passed away peacefully after battling cancer on March 16, 2025, in Detour, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, mentorship, and positivity. He lived a life that radiated goodness and inspired those around him; a life marked by unwavering dedication, integrity, and a profound sense of purpose. He was born on July 14, 1952, in Berkley, Michigan, to Kenneth and Audrey Miles.
Jack honorably served his country in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer and Air Traffic Controller, where he developed a sense of discipline and an exceptional work ethic that would define his character. Returning home, he worked in the printing industry while becoming a pillar of his community, devoting his spare time to coaching, mentoring, and motivating countless individuals. He was a true gentleman who valued integrity and fair play. His dedication extended to the fields and courts, where he first served as a respected coach and later an official of youth, junior high, and high school sports, and college baseball. His passion for fair play, motivation, and mentorship touched the lives of countless student athletes. His personal mantra, "Life is good, and I am blessed," was a testament to his optimism and gratitude. He was known for his altruistic nature, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer words of encouragement.
He was a loving husband to Cathy, his lifelong partner and best friend of 53 years. He was a proud and supportive father to his two sons, Jason (Alison) and Evan (Laurel) and found joy in his grandchildren, Nael and Raylan. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Michael, his brother-in-law Bernie Stafford, his four nieces, Annie, Heidi, Betsy, and Ashley, and his nephew, Andrew. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bernard and Diane Stafford.
A celebration of Jack’s life with his extended family will be this summer.
