James Alan “Jim” Gort Jr., age 49, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died November 10, 2024. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on April 27, 1975, to James Alan and Patricia Lynn (Wiers) Gort.
Jim grew up in Grand Rapids and attended Martin school before his family moved to Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Sault Area Schools. He attended Northwestern Michigan College in Ohio and earned his mechanic’s license. He then returned to Sault Ste. Marie and worked several jobs before starting his own small engine repair shop over ten years ago. He fixed everything from cars and trucks to lawnmowers and snowmobiles.
Jim was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie rifle club.
Jim loved shooting guns, racing, hunting, camping, fishing and boating.
Jim is survived by his mother Patricia Lynn (Wiers) Gort; father, James Alan Gort Sr.; son, Reid James Gort of Ontario, Canada; and sister, Jackie Marie Gort, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his grandparents, Russell and Ethel Gort, Jean and Gerald Weirs, Ori and Claude Klunder, Fred and Mina VanHaitsma.
Jimmy’s final resting place will be at Donaldson Cemetery in Bruce Township.
