Dolores Olga ”Beaver” Ginste

Dolores Olga ”Beaver” Ginste, age 93, died on December 9, 2024, unexpectedly at her home in St. Ignace, Michigan.  She was born on January 22, 1931, in Engadine, Michigan, to Alfred and Augusta (Fenske) DePottey.

Dolores grew up in Engadine, and graduated from Engadine schools.  She then moved downstate and worked in a hobby store for forty years.  She met Richard her husband in a car lot.  They married in the late seventies and moved to Mackinac Island, Michigan, where she went to work for Lil Bob’s for twenty years and then put in an additional ten years at Mackinac Fudge.  Dolores finally retired in her early eighties!

Dolores started Hope Lutheran Church in Harper Hope coffee shop.  She enjoyed helping people, and ”love your neighbor” was her way.  She enjoyed puzzles, crosswords and crafts.   She was always on the go taking backroad adventures, walking in the woods and traveling.  She loved camping, hunting,fishing, and being outdoors. She enjoyed doing crafts, blueberry picking, sharing the gospel and a Mother’s Day tradition of picking morels. She even made homemade maple syrup!

Dolores is survived by her children, Dick (Carol) Ginste, Chris Ginste, Ron (Luda) Ginste, Dennis (Debbie) Church, Sue (Andy) Eskelinen; grandchildren, Wayne Jr. (Colleen) Ginste, Mackenzie Ginste, Jack Ginste, Casey Ginste, John Ginste, Grant Ginste, Jared (Katie) Church, Samantha Church, Miles Church, Nolan Church, Jennifer (Matt) Kosakowski, Lauren (Emily) Madelyn, Jody (Allen) Diegel, Andrew Eskelinen, Adam Eskelinen, Anna Eskelinen, Alica Eskelinen, Shawn Eskelinen, Julie Talampas, Janell (Jason) Lockard, great-grandchildren; Lauren Eskelinen, Emily Eskelinen, Madelyn Eskelinen, Sebastian (Shanylah) Eskelinen, Jacob Eskelinen, Owen Eskelinen, Molly Eskelinen and Mary Grace Eskelinen.

Dolores was preceded in death by husband Richard; son, Wayne Ginste; parents, Alfred and Augustus; brothers, Bob (MaryLou) DePottey, Harry DePottey, Dan (Juanita) DePottey;  sisters, Ruth (Pat) St. Andre and Lois (Dick) Mouton; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Ginste. 

 A Memorial Gathering was held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM  at Hauss-Modetz Funeral Home, 47477 Romeo Plank Road, Macomb, MI 48088.  A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 23 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 17051 24 Mile Road, Macomb, MI 48042

Dolores’s final resting place with be at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Macomb, Michigan.
