David Lee Hanson, age 47, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died at Mackinac Straits Health System on December 10, 2022. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 21, 1975, to Roland Lawrence and Marilyn Gail (Green) Hanson.

David grew up in Eckerman, Michigan, and Brimley, Michigan, area. He began working at a young age washing dishes at the local diner. As his father traveled for work, so did the family, living sometime in Kentucky. He moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and he met the loved of his life, Amy K. Huddleston, through extended family in 1996. David began working for a construction company as a painter for twelve years and they raised their four children. David and Amy married on April 1, 2011, in Oklahoma City, before moving to St. Ignace in 2011. David was a deck hand for Shepler’s Ferry Company until 2019, when he earned his Captain’s license and began working at Starline Ferry Company until late 2022.

David was a lifetime member of the VFW in St. Ignace.

David loved to go fishing and play video games, but he also loved to spend time with his beloved wife and children.

David is survived by his wife, Amy Hanson; sons, Brent (Liz) Hanson of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and David Hanson Jr. of St. Ignace; daughters, Amanda Hanson of Ypsilanti, and Kat Hanson of St. Ignace; sister, Mary (Choko) Lopez of Paul Valley, Oklahoma; and brothers, Frank Hanson, and Francis Hanson of Oklahoma.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Marilyn Hanson.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer of 2023.
