IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Bouncing back from an early deficit, the Soo Eagles rebounded to clip the Iroquois Falls Storm 6-3 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Jus Jordan Arena.
A quick-moving Storm side banged in the night’s initial marker 70 seconds in when Ben Sherwin took a pass from Andre Cho and lifted it past Eagles’ netminder Jace Knoerle.
Going to the power play after that, Landon Tretheway of Iroquois Falls made it 2-0 at 3:28 as he went to the net and chopped in his 15th of the season.
Sault Ste. Marie regrouped and got on the board just over four minutes later thanks to Benjamin Pouliot as he banged in a loose puck that rang off the post on a Gabriel Fisher chance.
The Soo then drew level at 11:23 compliments of Ilian Danilov, who pumped a shot through Storm starter Maverick Fletcher from the top of the right circle.
A third straight marker saw the Eagles take the lead in the second stanza on an extra-man effort when a Lucas Caulfield attempt from the right side hit teammate Nolan Nemecek and found its way in.
Up a skater once more Pouliot pushed a play ahead off a draw and slid a pass over to Lucas Caulfield, who was left with a tap-in.
Pulling to within one midway through the third, Iroquois controlled a face-off on a power play that ended up seeing Jack Jarvis roof a backhand on Knoerle from the slot.
However, with Fletcher out twice for an extra attacker, Pouliot secured the road result for the Soo with a pair of late empty netters to complete the night’s scoring.
