A balanced offensive effort from the Soo Eagles saw them get goals from five different players as part of a 5-2 victory over the Blind River Beavers Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League meeting at Pullar Stadium.
Blind River began the scoring 5:22 into the match-up when Wyatt Gibson led a rush up-ice and sent a dump in off the end boards that skipped in front and found Shea Crewson in the slot where he buried his chance by Soo Sault Marie starter Mason Burkes.
Coming back to tie it, the Eagles’ Dominic Cicco pressured a turnover in the Beavers’ zone, which allowed Ilian Danilov to fire an attempt from the left side past netminder Connor Dunham-Fox.
Still tied at one into the second period, the Soo went ahead after Drew Dellies swept in his 10th of the season while situated at the top of the crease.
The home team then clicked again after Cooper Fredericks cranked in a bouncing puck from the right of Dunham-Fox at 16:26.
Pulling closer, Blind River made it 3-2 with 10:50 to go in the third, when Nicholas MacIssac went hard to the net from the left side and was stopped by Burkes, but Clark Furman jumped up and snapped in the rebound.
Getting that back, a strong forecheck from Cicco earned him another assist as his efforts permitted Benjamin Pouliet to go in, and while moving to his left, stuff in his 26th of the season as he scored for the sixth time in his past three contests.
Down by two with 2:33 to go, Blind River got their goalie out for an additional skater, but the Soo’s Lucas Caulfield iced it with a sharp angle empty netter to wrap-up the result.
The victory moves the Eagles into third place in the NOJHL standings, one point ahead of the Beavers.
