The first Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Tournament 15 years ago was staged with 12 teams.

When the event wrapped up on the weekend in St. Ignace it boasted 175 entries from the United States and Canada.

"We have a couple teams that actually meet every year and they have just become great friends. We have another team that lives all over the country and they come together to play, so just a lot of really good friends. Just to get together and have a good time," said Lora Brown, Executive Director of the St. Ignace Visitors Bureau.

Usually the tournament is held on Moran Bay, but the weather did not co-operate this winter season.

Instead it shifted to Chain Lake, which is about a mile inland from Moran Bay, where the ice was 14-inches thick.

The weekend is about having fun and something else. "It's about bragging rights and a beautiful Labatts Blue Bucket Trophy on birch bark and a six pack of beer," Brown said.

The winners will be posted on the St. Ignace Visitors Bureau website.
