Chippewa County Central Dispatch continues to raise awareness about the what3words app that can help locate and verify locations of emergency incidents.
"While there are many scenarios where this app is helpful, we especially see an advantage when trying to locate you while you enjoy the great outdoors," Chippewa County Central Dispatch said in a news release. "Whether it's off-roading, snowmobiling, boating or kayaking, this can allow us to get very specific GPS coordinates to provide to responding emergency services."
By using the what3words app, emergency crews can save precious time when they try to locate people in need. Callers just need to give their what3words address to find their exact location. If they already have the app, they can use it to find the three words, and if not, the call handler can send an SMS with a link so they can see their whats3words address.
Dispatch then can use the three words to detect the exact location and direct resources to where they are needed. These words can also be used to share locations between fire department, police and ambulance, as well as the coastguard and search and rescue teams.
