Truck split into two pieces in crash on M-26: MSP

The driver of the southbound pickup truck, along with the driver and passenger of the northbound pickup truck were taken to hospital

HOUGHTON COUNTY — On 01/21/2025 at approximately 7:48 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post responded to M-26 near Junction Road in Osceola Township for a report of a two-vehicle, personal injury crash. 

Preliminary investigation showed that a southbound pickup truck lost control and started sliding sideways. It crossed the centerline and struck a northbound pickup truck with a plow.  Upon contact, the southbound pickup truck was split into two pieces. The driver of the southbound pickup truck, along with the driver and passenger of the northbound pickup truck, were transported to UP Health Systems Portage by Mercy EMS.

Michigan State Police were assisted on the scene by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Hancock City Police Department, Lake Linden Village Police Department, Laurium Village Police Department, Mercy EMS, Tamarack City Fire Department, Hubbell Fire Department, Dollar Bay Fire Department, and Superior Service. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
