The FBI are investigating “what appears to be an attempted assassination” of Donald Trump Sunday.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said U.S. Secret Service agents fired shots at a man who had been pointing a high powered rifle with a scope through a fence while the former president played golf at his course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The suspect was reported to be hiding in shrubbery around 300 to 500 yards away from Trump.
A bystander then spotted the man hop into a vehicle and drive off, leaving the rifle, along with two backpacks and a GoPro camera, behind.
A suspect has been arrested.
Trump has released a statement saying he is "safe and well."
“Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!” he said in the email to his supporters.
The incident comes just over two months after Trump was grazed by a bullet in an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally on July 13.
