Soo Splash Pad up and running for the season

Rotary Club officially handed over to the city the keys of the newly constructed restroom facility during a ribbon cutting ceremony

Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie officially handed over the keys of the newly constructed restroom facility at the Soo Splash Pad to the city during a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday afternoon.

The Soo Splash Pad officially opened up last September for about a week before closing up for the winter season.

The water park is now open for the warm months again...along with the restrooms.

There will be an official Grand Opening Wednesday at 5 p.m. of the water park, however the park did open early this weekend to the pleasure of many parents and children.

The city will now be responsible for managing the $85,000 building.

Funding for the bathrooms came from grants, donations and fundraising efforts.

Rotary Club president Brian Felczak is happy with the entire project.

"It is great for the community to have.  It's nice to have the Project Playground and the Splash Pad and now the restrooms that people can use," Felczak said.

Rotary's Vision Statement says it all.

"Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves."

"We are a service organization. One of the focus areas we do is water and sanitation. This just correlates with what Rotary is about...service and having clean water and sanitation for people to use," Felczak said.

Next up on their agenda is getting a pavilion and new bathrooms, with plumbing, at Rotary Park located on the St. Marys River.

Felczak hopes to have that project done in 2025.
