Sgt. John Weist retires after 25 years of service

'The amount of dedication, service, and sacrifice Sgt. John Weist gave to our city the past 25 years is immeasurable,' said Police Chief Wes Bierling

Sergeant John Weist retired from the Sault Ste. Marie City Police Department after 25 years of service on Dec. 22, 2022.

"Throughout his career Sgt. Weist watched over and cared for his community, co-workers, and staff," City Mayor Don Gerrie said to start the first city commission meeting of 2023.

Weist served the city as a patrol officer, sniper, evidence technician, and Straits Area Narcotics Enforcement (SANE) detective.

"The amount of dedication, service, and sacrifice Sgt. John Weist gave to our city the past 25 years is immeasurable and for this we are in debt to him and his family," said Police Chief Wes Bierling. "We wish him a happy, healthy, and relaxing retirement."
