Sault community plays Pickleball on Sundays

'We have probably introduced the sport to around 40 to 50 people,'  Pickleball of the EUP member Sabrina Neveu said.

"You know what day it is? Sunday funday," Pickleball of the EUP member Sabrina Neveu posted to the group's Facebook page.

Just over a dozen community members of all ages came out to Lake Superior State University (LSSU) Student Activity Center to play pickleball from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. recently.

"We started playing at LSSU in August of 2022," Neveu said, crediting LSSU Norris Center Director Steve Habusta for providing free space and equipment needed. "We have probably introduced the sport to around 40 to 50 people. It is something people can do to get out and get active. It is about learning something new, socializing, and just getting some physical activity in."

According to Neveu, the pickleball community has growth rather strong across the river in Ontario and in neighboring communities, like Cedarville.

Wishing to partake in the community sport's expansion, Neveu has approached the city's strategic planning committee to suggest that an outdoor pickleball court be included in its Five-year Master Recreation Plan

"I think it would be beneficial to our community," Neveu said, eager to see what happens next.

For now, Neveu and other pickleball enthusiasts are actively recruiting members to play.

Pickleball of the EUP players typically get together on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come grab a racket. Visit the group's Facebook page at Pickleball of the EUP to stay up-to-date with the latest club information.
