GoFundMe set up for family who lost everything in Christmas Day fire

Family of six, including four young children, displaced after blaze destroys Kinross Township home

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist a Kinross Township family after a fire ripped through their home on Christmas Day.

A family of six, including four children and two dogs, was displaced by the blaze. The house and all of its contents were destroyed.

The GoFundMe page, created by Christin McKerchie, states that on the afternoon of Dec. 25, "my daughter Kayla and her young children, Estella (5), Jeremy (4), Everett (2), and baby Jasper (1 month), experienced an unimaginable tragedy. They lost their family home to a devastating fire, one that Kayla’s father, Judd, built many years ago for his children. After Judd’s passing four years ago, Kayla and her brother inherited the house, which held a lifetime of memories for her family.

"Miraculously, Kayla and her children woke up just in time to escape the flames. They made it out of the house safely, along with their two dogs, but unfortunately, the home and everything inside were lost in the fire."

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe campaign had raised $16,520 of its $35,000 target.

The funds raised will be used for emergency support, including temporary housing for the family; to purchase clothing shoes, essentials, and groceries; and to replace furniture and household basics, the page reads.

"While the full cost of rebuilding the home is more than what they can afford, this campaign will help cover the immediate needs as we work toward more long-term recovery efforts. We will continue to seek other avenues of support, including insurance claims, grants, and community help, but this money will be a lifeline for Kayla and her family in their time of greatest need."
