Robotics team from LSSU makes a splash with autonomous boat

Team AMORE places 5th in RoboBoat 2024 Competition in Florida, wins $1,000 prize

A group of undergraduate students from Lake Superior State University, achieved a milestone in the RoboBoat 2024 competition held in Sarasota, Fla., the university says.

The primary objective of RoboBoat 2024 was to design and develop an autonomous boat, challenging participating teams to showcase their technical prowess and innovative solutions.

Team AMORE, comprised of Lake State students from diverse majors, including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, Biology, and Business, "demonstrated their collaborative spirit and interdisciplinary excellence throughout the competition," LSSU said in a news release.

"The final results of RoboBoat 2024 reflected Team AMORE's dedication and ingenuity, securing an impressive 5th place out of 19 participating teams. This significant accomplishment not only highlights their technical approach but also places them among the top performers in a highly competitive field," the university said.

Assistant Professor Edoardo Sarda, the team's advisor, expressed his pride in the team's achievements.

"The transformation from the previous year's performance to successfully placing 5th in RoboBoat 2024 is a testament to the team's dedication and continuous improvement. The competition not only provides hands-on learning but also fosters a competitive spirit that propels our students towards remarkable careers," Sarda said.

In addition to their placement, Team AMORE received an award of $1,000, recognizing their outstanding performance in the competition.
