SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Chippewa County Family Project Arfstrom-Faunt Teen Home, which opened to residents in October, 2022, is transitioning from Child Care Licensing (CCI) for youth in the mental health behavioral stabilization program to a Child Placing Agency-Supportive Independent Living facility.

The new program is designed for those who can live independently without 24-hour supervision and aligns more with the CCFP’s original mission.

“In the upcoming weeks, our organization will make significant changes that will demonstrate our mission of helping adolescents in our community and fight homelessness,” CCFP Chief Administrator Tara Tremblay said.

The ever-increasing need for assistance from local behavioral health agencies and law enforcement to help the CCFP adhere to State of Michigan rules and regulations impacted the Arfstrom-Faunt Home’s licensing change. Until now, eastern U.P. area teens in need of foster care services rarely qualified to live in the teen home because of the CCI licensing structure.

The Chippewa County Family Project, Inc., is a non-profit (501c3) agency located in Chippewa County, Mich., providing foster care services to the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Our home provides services and safe residential areas for teen boys in foster care from ages 13 to 18. Grass roots initiatives to assist the area’s nearly 100 documented homeless children inspired the CCFP’s establishment in 2016. Placements are regulated by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
