Lincoln Elementary School held its annual Veterans Day ceremony Monday afternoon with dozens of family members and veterans attending.
The touching, heart-felt ceremony was held in the school gymnasium with half of the 2nd-4th grade student population at 2 p.m. and the other half at 2:30 p.m.
The Pledge of Allegiance was first read, then Principal Carl McCready welcomed everybody to the ceremony.
Nestled in between two videos, the Star Spangled Banner, the Soldier's Medley and God Bless The USA were sung.
McCready is in his third year as principal at Lincoln Elementary. Prior, he was principal at the high school for eight years and says having this special ceremony each year is an important part of the school district's culture.
"Teaching the students leading up to the ceremony has to be in kid-friendly language and they have to understand the purpose of what we are trying to do. They also can relate to a veteran in their family. We started this process a week ago by printing pictures and hanging them in the hallway and making sure that our kids understand that it's a big deal and what it means to our community," McCready said.
Logan Delmore is a 3rd grade student. He dressed up in a suit and tie and sang proudly during the ceremony.
"It was pretty cool because you got to stand in front of a lot of different people and the flag," Logan said.
His father, Brennon, served four years in the Marines and attended with his other children and wife.
"It's really heart-warming, honestly. It's really cool. We didn't tell him to put on a suit today. He was just super proud and wanted to show it. Logan has told me he wants to join the military when he grows up and I support that," Brennon said.
