To help the community be more alert to someone thinking of suicide and better able to connect them with further help, MyMichigan Medical Center Sault will host the SafeTALK training workshop. The event will be held on Thursday, Dec., 5, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., at the Sault Wesleyan Church, 3556 Seymour Road. The program is sponsored by MyMichigan Health Foundation and Kiersten’s Ride.

SafeTALK stands for Suicide Alertness For Everyone – Tell, Ask, Listen, KeepSafe. Presented by Kristine Schaub and Lisa Clavier, LivingWorks safeTALK trainers, the workshop helps participants become alert to suicide and recognize a person with thoughts of suicide. Suicide-alert people are better prepared to connect persons with thoughts of suicide to life-affirming help.

The program is open to anyone who is interested in learning the steps of being suicide alert. Registration is required by emailing Schaub at [email protected]. Those with questions or concerns may call Schaub at (989) 839-1647 or Clavier at (906) 632-5901.
