The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Chippewa, Luce and Mackinac counties.

Heavy snow is expected with total snow accumulations from 8 to 15 inches forecast. Winds are expected to be gusting 30 to 40 mph from the Southwest and blowing, drifting snow is likely

This warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday for Chippewa and Mackinac counties and until 1 p.m. Thursday for Luce County.

Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.

Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow and strong winds coupled with the weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines causing sporadic power outages.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible with areas of blowing snow significantly reducing visibility. The hazardous conditions could also impact Wednesday morning and evening commutes.
