Rudyard Fire Dept. were called out to Rudyard High School for a reported fire this evening.
Superintendent Tom McKee posted on the Rudyard Bulldog Bulletin Facebook page the following:
"Good evening Bulldog Country. Today, at 5:01pm, the fire alarm went off in the school building. We had a mechanical issue with the dust collector that sits outside of the school catching fire. Rudyard Fire Dept. came over. Those people are amazing. Please shake their hand and tell them thank you. They were able to put out fire. The smoke had pushed its way back into the building,. though. Nothing inside the building was ever on fire. It was just the smoke. We have Atlas coming out to help clean and get rid of all the smoke throughout the building. So, that is what happened today. It has been a long day so please have some grace with us as we work on getting you, the community, all the information that you need as quick as possible, you have a little grace with us because there are a lot of things happening. At no time were any of the students in danger or in any harm. We will have an update later this evening into early tomorrow morning about the school for Wednesday. Any questions, you can reach out to me 906-630-0814. Thank you."
Rudyard Area Schools will be closed Wednesday "out of an abundance of caution as we ensure the air quality is perfect for our students when they return," McKee in a statement.
