According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data, outpatient visits for influenza-like illness are the highest they have been in Michigan over the last 15 years. To help reduce the spread of infection and keep patients safe, MyMichigan Health will be strictly enforcing visitor policies at all facilities.

“MyMichigan Health is committed to protecting the health of the communities that we serve and with this increase in influenza, enforcing our visitor policies at all MyMichigan facilities is not only a must, it’s our responsibility,” said Paul Berg, M.D, senior vice president and chief medical officer, MyMichigan Health. “Those who are experiencing potentially contagious symptoms should refrain from visiting our facilities unless they are seeking care. If you are seeking care for flu-like illness, please wear a mask or consider a virtual visit as a possible alternative.”

As a reminder, inpatients are allowed two healthy visitors or support persons at a time, emergency department patients are allowed one healthy support person, and patients in outpatient settings such as doctors’ offices, surgery centers, lab, imaging or testing facilities are allowed one healthy support person. Pediatric patients are allowed two parents or legal guardians. Maternity inpatients may have two healthy support persons (must be the same two designated individuals for the duration of the patient’s visit) plus a certified doula. Visitors may be further limited during extenuating circumstances or due to space constraints. Visitors must check in at the hospital entrance at the start of each visit before going to a patient room or floor.
