Chippewa Co. sheriff's office holding annual holiday food drive

The sheriff says the outpouring of community support continues to grow each year

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office has teamed up once again with County Commissioner Scott Shackleton to hold its annual holiday food drive this Saturday, Dec. 2. This event has been going on for more than twp decades.

The event will be held in the parking lot at Walmart on the Business Spur and downtown at Pat's Foods from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Volunteers from the department spend much of their Saturday collecting the items and interacting with the public.

Some of the specific items needed include frozen turkeys and hams and canned and boxed goods. Monetary donations are always welcome.  New, unwrapped toys are also accepted.

The one-day event grows every year as the need grows in the community.

In previous years, the event has weathered blizzard conditions at times but has also seen pleasant 50 degree conditions.

Any new toys are used to support needy children with the help of the Chippewa Co Sheriff's Office and the Salvation Army.

All donated food and money go to the local Salvation Army.
