Paradise Area Community Foundation looking to replace outdated logo

PACF invites high school students from Chippewa and Luce Counties to create a new logo. Cash prizes will be given away.

Calling all high school students in Chippewa County and Luce County.  If you have a creative, artistic talent, the Paradise Area Community Foundation (PACF) is holding a competition for someone to create a new logo for their organization.

Kerry Laycock, a board member of PACF, said the logo is very outdated and needs to go.

"The 'Beacon of Enrichment' lighthouse is the closest we have as a logo. It’s probably 25 years old, but I don’t really know.  It exists only on this brochure.  We need to update our brochure and felt it was a good time to update the logo.  I wanted something that we could use on our thank you letters to donors, on social media, and elsewhere.  What’s on the old brochure is not easily recognizable at a glance.  We want a logo that is easy to understand and remember with something that strengthens our identity. We talked about paying a professional or perhaps a college student, but the board quickly rejected these options.  Community foundations exist to invest in the community.  At PACF, we have a strong commitment to supporting and enriching youth.  Offering a nice prize to area high school students and encouraging their creativity is consistent with our purpose and focus. It’s a chance for talented students in our community to be recognized.  I think it is also good for PACF to have a logo that connects us to the community in both its graphic representation and its creative origins.  We are fortunate to have the strong support of teachers and administrators at area high schools," Laycock explained.

Students may work individually or in collaboration with other students (who will share in the prize money if they create the winning logo).

$500 is up for grabs for the winning logo (if awarded) with $100 for all finalists.

There are specific rules for the contest:

  1. It must be an original design and not contain any copyrighted images.
  2. It must present an image that in some way references the area.
  3. Be a simple graphic and not include any photographic images.
  4. Designs may, but are not required to, include the name or initials (PACF) of the foundation.
  5. Designs may be hand-rendered or digital works (utilizing appropriate graphics software such as Adobe Illustrator).

Entries are due April 15, 2025.

Submissions will be judged by a committee of the PACF board. A maximum of three finalists will be chosen to present their designs
to the full board at a meeting in April 2025. If a winner is chosen, the prize will be awarded in May or June 2025. The PACF board reserves the right to reject all submissions.

Entries may be made electronically, or by mail, along with the student(s) name(s), address(s), age(s), telephone number(s), and high school name and may be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to: Paradise Area Community Foundation, PO Box 362, Paradise, MI 49768
