Sault Ste. Marie City Police is asking for your help to solve several break-ins and thefts from concession buildings at the local softball and baseball fields.
According to Detective Sergeant Kristin Autore, there were three breaking and entering complaints reported to have occurred between Saturday night and this morning at Malcolm Park.
The wood security door over the front window of the concessions building in the Bill James Memorial Field was damaged. They reported approximately $500 in food items and $70 worth of other items were stolen.
The Gary McClellan facility had a broken window and screen. So far approximately $100 worth of food items were missing.
The Sault Area Little League field had two buildings that were damaged and entered. A door and a roll-up door for concessions were damaged. They are estimating approximately $200 worth of food items missing at this time.
Tallies of damage and missing items are still pending. The food items are typical concession snacks such as chips, soda, hot dogs, sports drinks, and candy.
Linda Bouvet, Soo Legacies Softball Club director and Malcolm Park Pride Committee Chair, who organized a huge tournament this past weekend with around three dozen teams participating, is frustrated.
"This is the fifth vandal incident at Locey Field in two years and one of dozens that have occurred in Malcolm Park. We desperately need camera surveillance throughout the park. Malcolm Park is operated and maintained by the combined efforts of volunteers and city workers. I feel so badly for all who have been dealing with this constantly. A few perpetrators have been caught and this group will be too. But in the meantime this has led to a lot of heartache, added expense and frustration for user groups and the city parks staff," Bouvet said.
If anyone has any information about this or has seen anyone with large amounts of snack food, please contact Sault Ste. Marie Police Department at 906-632-5744.
