The green flag dropped at 10 a.m. to officially start the 56th running of the I-500 Snowmobile Endurance race with around a few dozen teams vying for the top honor of winning the grueling 500 mile race.
Despite a temperature of -10 F at the start of the race, hundreds of fans cheered the racers on as the green flag dropped, with more fans continuing to arrive after.
The race usually takes around nine hours to complete so there is plenty of time to layer up and support the racers.
Race buttons must be purchased at the gate to enter at a cost of $30. Parking is available on the grounds for $10.
