Woman dies after colliding with Mackinac Island carriage

A 77-year-old Huntington Woods woman who was cycling on Mackinac Island is dead after succumbing to injuries she sustained when she collided with a carriage

MACKINAC ISLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT

On 08/21/24 at approximately 2:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Main Street and Bogan Lane to investigate a crash involving a bicycle and a carriage. Through investigation, it was determined that a bicyclist traveling westbound collided with a carriage traveling eastbound.

The bicyclist, a 77-year-old female from Huntington Woods, Michigan, was seriously injured and transported to McLaren Hospital in Petosky where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Mackinac Island Police were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Mackinac Island Emergency Medical Services, the Mackinac Island Marine Rescue, Mackinac Island Carriage Tours, Island House Hotel staff, and several community members and visitors. The Mackinac Island Police Department would like to thank everyone for their assistance.
