Newberry man charged in vehicle-snowmobile crash

On February 22 around 7:45 p.m., Luce County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a vehicle vs snowmobile crash on County Road 451 in McMillan Township.

Two subjects, a 36-year-old female and a 35-year-old male, had sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital by EMS. A 53-year-old Newberry man who had been operating the vehicle left the scene on foot prior to deputies’ arrival.

This subject was subsequently located at a nearby residence and taken into custody for operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Deputies were assisted by Luce County EMS, Newberry Fire, and Michigan State Police.
