On Friday, Nov. 8 at approximately 11:45 p.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Traverse City Post were called to a residence in Blair Township for a report of a domestic assault.

The suspect and victim were in the driveway of the residence when troopers arrived. Troopers interviewed the suspect, 42-year-old Jennifer Lynn Vargas from Traverse City, and the victim separately. The victim told troopers she had been thrown headfirst down a flight of stairs and struck multiple times. The victim had visible bitemarks and a minor cut on her hand resulting from a struggle with a knife. The victim also claimed she lost consciousness multiple times as a result of being strangled.

Vargas was arrested and lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail. The victim was treated by Long Lake EMS and transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for further evaluation. Vargas was arraigned yesterday in the 86th District Court in Grand Traverse County for one count assault with intent to murder. She remains lodged on a $250,000 cash surety bond. Her next scheduled court appearance is on Dec. 2 at 11 a.m.
