On Tuesday, Nov. 12, at approximately 2:55 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Cadillac Post were called to a crash involving two vehicles in Clam Lake Township.

The preliminary investigation revealed 32-year-old Donavan Lee Bigelow from Manton was traveling westbound on East 48 Rd in a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu with two passengers, a 32-year-old woman and 30-year-old man both from Manton. Bigelow failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a 2020 Ford Escape driven by a 41-year-old man from Tustin traveling southbound on Mackinaw Trail. The Ford was also occupied by a 16-year-old female passenger. Bigelow showed signs of intoxication and sobriety tests were administered.

Bigelow failed the sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. His passengers suffered extensive injuries and were flown to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City where they were listed in critical condition. The occupants of the Ford Escape suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Bigelow was arraigned in the 84th District Court in Wexford County for two counts operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, and habitual offender fourth offense notice. His bond was set at $50,000. His next scheduled court appearance is on Nov. 26. Troopers were assisted by deputies from the Wexford County Sheriff’s Office.
