Victoria Janell (Smart) Powels, age 32, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on February 20, 2024. She was born on May 14, 1991, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Contessia (Smart) Vincent.
Victoria grew up in Sault Ste Marie and graduated from Sault Area High School with the Class of 2009.
Victoria was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church where she sang in the youth choir. She attended Presbytery Point Camp during the summers and went to Louisiana on a mission trip with the church’s youth group.
Victoria enjoyed playing games on her phone, watching her favorite tv shows, having BBQs with family, and playing cards. She was a people person with a big heart! Victoria was very outgoing and liked hanging out with her friends and family. Her children Robert and Jacy and dog Cookie were a big piece of her life, and she loved them more than anything!
Victoria is survived by her son, Robert Noah Leon; daughter, Jacy Janell Leon; mom, Terri Marsh; biological mother, Contessia Vincent; stepfather, Raymond Lee Vincent; grandfather, Dennis Smart; stepsister, Ashlee (Jon) Vincent; stepbrothers, Raymond (Braylyn) Vincent, and Tyler (Melisa) Vincent; aunts and uncles, Mick (Tracy) Smart, Torey Smart, Larry Marsh, Janice Shannon, Sarah (Jesse) Smart, and Ben (Becky) Forejt; and cousins, Samantha (Josh) Smart, Trenton Smart, Ford (Jasmine) Smart, Shelby (Hunter) Smart, Hailey (Ben) Smart, Brooklyn Smart, Kylee Smart, Mercedes (Fred) Lounsberry, Stephanie and Christopher Shannon, Randy, Raymond, Ben, and Stacey Forejt.
Victoria was preceded in death by her great-great-grandma, Mina Farrish; and great-grandparents, Franklin and Phyllis Forejt.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Sault Tribe Cultural Center, 11 Ice Circle Chi Mukwa, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 on Monday February 26th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 5:00 PM and on Tuesday February 27th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A Traditional Ceremony and a Christian Service will be held on Wednesday, February 28th at 11:00 AM with a luncheon immediately following.
Flowers can be sent to the Sault Tribe Cultural Center on both Monday the 26th and Tuesday the 27th.
