Doreen Lucy Gordon, 87, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie on September 17, 1937, to Frank and Ila (Palmer) Brown.

She grew up in Gardenville where she could see the freighters from her bedroom window. Doreen married the love of her life, James Gordon, on October 30, 1964. They were wed for just shy of 50 years before Jim passed in 2014.

Doreen worked at the Penthouse restaurant, Hal Smith Inc., House of Bargains, Sainte Marie Yard and Marine, and Little Red Shoe House, before finishing her career at Central Savings Bank, where she made many great friends. She was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church running the Soup Kitchen and participating in the Presbyterian Women’s Circle. Doreen spent endless hours at Pullar Stadium with the Hiawatha Skating Club, and she was active in the War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Doreen even played Hockey for the Whizzies Dizzies against the Masons Mashers in the game of the year (1967).

Doreen is survived by her son, Steve (Vicky) Gordon; daughter, Karen Gordon; grandchildren, Erin, Robert and Michael Gordon; sister, Jean Sauro; granddogs, Woofie and Jeanne (Jim Thompson); and grandcats, Mr. Gizmo, Gidget, Tiki, Torch, Allie, and Gideon; many nieces, nephews, and great friends.

Doreen was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ila; and brother, Harold Brown.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Family Life Funeral Homes, 4951 S. M-129, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Funeral service at 4:00 PM with burial to follow at the Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, 15264 M-129, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. A light lunch will be served at the First United Presbyterian Church following the burial.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Chippewa County Animal Shelter.
