Edsel Homer Blair, age 79, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died on November 20, 2024. He was born on November 22, 1944, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, to Vern and Roma (Brock) Blair.
Edsel graduated from LaSalle High School with the Class of 1964. After graduation, he went to work for Arnold Line Transit until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1965. He served in the Vietnam War as a radio tech until he was honorably discharged in 1967. Upon return, he worked on the SS Chief Wawatam shoveling coal until landing his career with the Mackinac Bridge Authority in 1969, where he worked until he retired in 1997.
Edsel enjoyed street drags in his early years, as well as mud racing/bogs, attending auto and monster truck shows, and collecting cars. In the fall he could be found rifle hunting. He also liked to show off when playing checkers, going for a Sunday drive, cruising in his corvettes, and riding his motorcycle. After retirement, life slowed down a bit due to medical reasons, and he looked forward to family gatherings at his home, especially birthday parties. He also watched a lot of tv and listened to most of the local sports.
Edsel is survived by his sons, David (April) Blair, and Daniel (Renee Rankinen) Blair; daughters, Dawn (Dustin) Wilcox and Diane (Troy) Huskey; the mother of their children, Miriam Blair; grandchildren, Trevor Blair, Tabitha Blair, Taylor Blair, Trey Blair, Teagan Blair, Trestin Blair, and Destiny Stenberg; great-grandchildren, Mackenah Blair, and Brooklyn Cryderman; sister, Beverly Fraser; and brother, Robert (Brenda) Blair.
Edsel was preceded in death by parents, Vern and Roma; and sisters, Betty (Wayne) Bell and Elaine (Sonny) Anderson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Family Life Funeral Homes, 999 S. State St. St. Ignace, MI 49781 with lunch and drinks during. The Memorial Service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM with the burial to follow.
Final resting place will be at Gros Cap Cemetery in Moran Township, Michigan.
