A pair of second period goals, including the eventual game-winner, from Benjamin Pouliot propelled the Soo Eagles to a 4-2 victory over the Timmins Rock Sunday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.

Despite Timmins outshooting Sault Ste. Marie in the opening frame, it was the visiting Eagles who supplied the lone tally in the first period.

That came at 15:46 as Cooper Fredericks fired a crisp pass across to Lucas Caulfield, who quickly whipped it past Rock netminder Graham Gee.

Action in the middle frame saw the Soo go up by a pair as they knocked down a clearing attempt in the Timmins end, which later allowed Pouliot to shovel a backhand through a downed Gee.

The home side came right back moments later to get on the board on a marker credited to Jack Kelly for his sixth of the season.

Going back up by a pair at 11:36, Pouliot notched his second of the stanza as he went in alone, cut to his left, and lifted in a backhand.

Pulling back to within one before the second intermission, Timmins clicked on a late power play when Lucas Lowe dished off a nice pass to Kaeden McArthur on the left side, who promptly fired it past Eagles’ netminder Mason Burkes.

With the scoreline remaining the same deep into the third, the Soo secured the road victory with an empty net effort from Luke Russell in the final minute.

The win helps the Eagles collect five of a possible six points on a three-game road trip as they improved to 7-4-0-1 overall.

With the defeat, the Rock dropped to 8-4-0-0.
