SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – A Benjamin Pouliot man-advantage marker, with 3:46 remaining in regulation, proved to be the game-winner as the Soo Eagles came back to edge the Timmins Rock 5-4 Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Pullar Stadium.

Sault Ste. Marie connected first in the contest as well when Lucas Caulfield took a feed from the end boards by Tyler Fortson and whipped it past Timmins starter Graham Gee, from a sharp angle, 6:45 in.

The marker gives Caulfield points seven consecutive games.

Answering with an equalizer off some crisp puck movement during a man advantage, the Rock’s Lucas Lowe steered in a crisp pass in front from Reece Liu at 14:10.

Not done there, Lowe added another, three and a half minutes later as he beat Eagles netminder Jace Knoerle after snagging a turnover and wiring it in from the left circle.

Timmins kept coming and tacked on two more to take a 4-1 lead into the intermission.

After Liu converted by dangling to the slot and sizzling a wrister over the glove of Knoerle at 18:17, Henry McLellan capped off the barrage in the final minute as he came in on a two-on-one, then worked to the middle and snapped in his ninth of the season.

Heading to the second stanza, the Soo forced a turnover four and a half minutes in, which set-up a three-on-one the other way and saw Pouliot score for a sixth straight game and he wired in an attempt from the right wing.

The Eagles then got back to within one during a power play that saw Gabriel Fisher pump a shot from the point that found its way in with Pouliot battling in front at 12:17.

Tying it 3:33 into the third, the Soo’s Fisher ripped a shot from up top off the end glass that bounced out to Drew Dellies, who buried the tying tally over a sprawled Gee.

Getting the lead late, while up a skater, the Pouliot was spotted by Caulfield from behind the net and sent him a quick pass that was promptly snapped in to secure the come from behind triumph.

With the victory, the Eagles have now won seven games in a row, improving to 19-6-0-2 on the campaign.
